An Ordinary Woman's View on the War on Women.

As I write this, I'm on Twitter, watching my newsstream fill up with both women fighting
for their rights, and people filled with such hatred for the female gender. It makes me
uneasy, it makes me wonder what happened to make these people hate women so much
that they feel the need to attack them so viciously.

So many rights have been taken from women in the last few months. But let's start with the
first one that comes to mind - ABORTION.

I've watched, as in the United States, restrictive, unethical laws are passed into effect
regarding abortion, whereby stripping women of the right to choose for themselves what
happens to their bodies. Please don't misunderstand. In no way, shape or form am I either
Pro-Life or Pro-Abortion. I am Pro-choice. Why? We'll get to that in a minute.

Let's discuss some of the more unethical laws. In one, it forces women to go through a
trans-vaginal ultrasound, which is an invasive, uncomfortable procedure, which many
people have likened to State-Sanctioned Rape. Which, ethically it is, if you do not have the
woman's consent. On one hand, I see why this would be effective. Perhaps it would change
one or two women's minds about having abortion, but I doubt it. Instead, I see more money
being spent by the State defending themselve from the hordes of women that will, in turn,
charge the State with rape.

Next, there's the law that allows physicians to LIE to their patients. which is not only
unethical, it is also DANGEROUS. Not only to a woman's life, but also to a potential child's
life as well. AND the cherry on top? A woman can no longer sue that physician for
malpractice if they mislead her or withhold important information from her. I wonder if
these lawmakers know just how many lives they are destroying with this kind of law.

And next - and this is a new one, some people know about it, others don't - is the law that
anyone - ANYONE (this includes family, friends, strangers) who tries to help you get an
abortion or better prenatal information in another state or country can be charged with a
crime.  I'd best leave this one alone, as I had to spend a few moments away from my
computer to avoid a profanity-laced rant.

Now. I am pro-choice, because I am better informed about ALL my options, not just
abortion, not just adoption, ALL MY OPTIONS.  You see, the one major thing these
lawmakers are missing is this:

When you take away all rights, and leave someone with only one option, rebellion will
ALWAYS occur. They've taken away Planned Parenthood, stating that it only advocated
abortion, which is so far from the truth I'm flabbergasted. If they really wanted to save
unborn babies, and help potential mothers deal positively with their pregnancies, they
would do the following (And I'll explain the reasons as well):

1. Send funds to Planned Parenthood with the following conditions: Their contributions must
be used to advocate adoption, parenting and programs that coincide with that. Why? Because If women were informed PROPERLY about ALL their options, and offered the support needed in order to keep their babies or put them up for adoption, I could practically guarantee you'd see a drop in abortions. ACCESS to information is the key. But, because so many women feel like there really is no other option, the road they take is the road to abortion.

 2. Put sex-ed back in schools. Last time I checked, they DON'T TEACH YOU SEX
POSITIONS in sex-ed!! They teach abstinence, protection, and self-awareness about your
own body. They help kids understand the consequences of sex, and what can happen. Make
it mandatory that the schools teach abstinence, sure, but don't make that the only thing
they can teach about. Proper education means better choices, better lives, and the ability to
protect yourself. Bad education means more teenage pregnancies, more unwanted babies,
possibly even more abused or abandoned children. You're never going to be able to stop
teens from having sex, I can guarantee that, but what you can do is make sure they know
what can happen if they do, and how to either deal with it or avoid it.

Those are only two of the options that should be considered if you really want people to stop
having abortions. I truly wish people realized that when you take away someone's rights, or
access to information, all you will ever get is a war.

One of the things about this War on Women that made me sad, was the fact that for some
bizarre reason, there are actually WOMEN supporting these laws! Instead of trying to find a
better way to decrease abortions and give unborn children rights, they go on the attack,
almost as if they, themselves, have forgotten somewhere along the way that the rights they
are helping take away are THEIR RIGHTS TOO.

Instead of condemning women who choose abortions, how about supporting them, and
helping them become better informed so that potentially they make a different decision?

Respectfully,

An Ordinary Woman.
