Romney, Obama and Paul..Cleaning out the Closets Part 1 of 4

Hello my friends!

Today's post will actually be a four part series on the Presidential Candidates (Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, and just for fun, let's throw in Ron Paul). I will be posting about when they first came on the Political Scene, what they were doing previously, what their campaign does or does not endorse, and, my favorite, the skeletons in the closet. Most of what I'm going to write about is out there to read, I'm just amalgamating everything so you don't have to hunt down the articles.I do so love to make things easier for my readers!

Should I tease you and leave Mitt Romney for last? No, I wouldn't do that to you. So, today's posting will be all about Mitt Romney. Here's a couple of links to get us started:

So, let's start at the beginning: Willard Mitt Romney was born on March 12, 1947 to George and Lenore Romney. George Romney was the president of American Motors, Governor of Michigan and a Republican Presidential Candidate. Surprisingly, his mother, Lenore, was an advocate of women being more involved in business and politics. In 1970, she was actually asked to run in politics. She didn't win, largely because she found it difficult to separate herself and her reputation from her husband. I actually find Romney's mother's history to be fascinating. As a young woman, she fell in love with acting, performing mostly Shakespeare - against George Romney's being against it. She eventually left acting, claiming at the time that it was because she found Hollywood life to be disturbing; later, she admitted that she quit because she would have possibly upstaged her husband, and he couldn't stand that. Yet another example of someone who allowed themselves to be controlled. BUT, underneath the control, there was a feminist. She was a vocal supporter of women, and was known to support rebellion, as long as the rebellion was for a good cause. She was anti-war, protesting the Vietnam War. For years, she was ambivalent about Pro-life, but in the 1970's changed her mind and asserted that she was, indeed pro-life.

George Romney, Mitt's father, as far as I've been able to find out, attended several different Colleges, but never officially graduated from any of them. He grew up in Mexico, but his family fled Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. Once in the U.S., he and his family were poor; accepting Government relief. Eventually, they settled in Utah, where George started working at the age of 11 in the fields. They struggled through the Great Depression. In 1926, he traveled to Britain and Scotland as a Mormon Missionary. After he married Lenore, he moved to Washington, and became involved as a Lobbyist. George was obsessed with his Religion, sharing that his religion was more important to him than anything else in the world. He passed that along to his children.

Ironically enough, when George Romney campaigned to be President, the validity of his campaign was questioned, due to his birth in Mexico. It was claimed that he was ineligible, as he wasn't a "natural born citizen". Romney withdrew before the matter was resolved, leading people to believe that the claim was true.

After Nixon became President, Romney was named Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Nixon had a strong dislike of George, and apparently only gave him the position to appease the Republicans and make it harder for him to challenge for the 1972 Republican President Nomination. Eventually, Nixon tried to force George to resign. He finally resigned after Nixon was placed back in Office.

On to Mitt. Mitt was born in Detroit, Michigan. He is a fifth-generation Mormon. Until 7th grade, he attended public schools, then went on to attend Cranbrook School, a privileged preparatory school, where he was bullied for being the only Mormon on campus. At the age of 17, Mitt interned for his father in the Governor's Office.

Mitt attended Stanford University for one year, where he remained traditional, even with the era being "Radical". He even counter-protested a sit-in while at the school.

In 1966, he left to go do Missionary work in France, where he was met with hostility. During his time there, he was involved in an accident that claimed the life of The Mission President's wife.

Upon returning to the U.S., Mitt married Ann. He went back to school, stating that he wanted to pursue business, but his father convinced him to get his law degree. He first went to work for the Boston Consulting Group, and in 1977, went to work for Bain & Co. Bain & Co. is the subject of controversy, due to their business practices, and tendencies for people to lose their jobs at the companies bought and leveraged through them. As a result of his career with Bain, Mitt's net worth was estimated at between $190 and $250 million dollars.

In 1993, Mitt Romney switched from being an Independent to being Republican, and chose to run against Ted Kennedy. Romney's campaign had trouble with consistency, as well as with Mitt's tendencies to change his views of everything, from abortion, to what had happened with Ampad. Needless to say, Mitt lost the election.

In 2002, the Republicans weren't happy with the acting Governor, Jane Swift. They asked Romney to run for the Governor position. Democratic Officials contested Mitt's eligibility to run for Massachussetts' Governor, due to his living in Utah. Eventually, it was ruled that he WAS, in fact, eligible. Mitt supported raising fees, cutting spending, closing tax loopholes, and in 2006, he signed the Massachussetts Health Reform Law, which penalized anyone who did not have health insurance coverage.

Mitt Romney was a vocal opponent against same-sex marriage, but reluctantly endorsed civil unions, seeing it as a way to keep gays from being "married". BUT, in 2005, along with the Coalition for Marriage and Family, he endorsed a petition for banning same-sex marriage and civil unions.

Also, in 2005, Mitt changed his position on Abortion, going from pro-choice, which he claimed in 2002, to being pro-life. He opposed Roe vs. Wade. He even tried to veto a bill that would provide women with emergency contraception in hospitals and pharmacies.

His presidential bid in 2008 was a disaster. Due to his changing positions on issues, Mitt was nicknamed the "Flip Flopper". Needless to say, he didn't win.

I won't even bother getting into his 2012 campaign, as that's been publicised enough, I think. Now, onward, the dirt on Mitt Romney. Here are your links:

Now, some of his skeletons are obviously out of the closet. (Excuse the pun, hehe). Such tidbits like Seamus, the Roof Riding Dog, so I won't get into those ones.

It's also a well-known fact that Romney's a notorious liar. One of his bigger lies was that he and his father marched with Martin Luther King jr. That couldn't have been further from the truth.

Another one of his bigger lies was the following: ""When [during their debate] Kennedy called him 'multiple choice,' Romney demanded an extra rebuttal. He revealed that a close relative died of an illegal abortion years ago and said, 'Since that time, my mother and my family have been committed to the belief that we can believe as we want, but we will not force our beliefs on others on that matter, and you will not see my wavering on that.' "
- Boston Globe, 3/2/2006"

I hesitate to use the word "fraud", as that can be inflammatory and libelous..however, research has proved that Mitt Romney has at least been "associated" with fraud. Through Bain & Co., and Medicare.

There is a lot in Mitt's closet, if you read the above links. More than I have time to write about today. But I'll close with the one thing that disturbs me the most about Mitt Romney: He'll say ANYTHING, do ANYTHING, regardless of who gets hurt, to get what he wants. He's changed his position on issues to connect with whatever he's supporting or endorsing at that particular moment, and I doubt he'll ever stop.

So, my friends, that is Mitt Romney. Next up will be Barack Obama. Stay tuned.

And, as usual, thank you, you educate me, you give me the courage to blog and advocate for truth, fairness and equality.

Please feel free to comment, as to be informed, you must have information. As usual, debate is welcome, however, trolls, abusers and violence will be dealt with swiftly.

A Time To Celebrate!

Hello, my favorite Suffragettes and Suffragents!

Let me just start this blog post by saying GOOD FOR YOU! April 28, 2012 was a success! This was the real beginning to making ourselves seen as well as heard, and I congratulate you all on your determination, strength, dignity and class!

Women from all across the United States united and raised their voices, posters and feet to march and rally to fight the War On Women. I wish I had been there...I tweeted my heart out yesterday, occasionally being kicked off Twitter. I have no idea if the women and men that showed up to the rallies had any abusers or hostile commentators (please leave a message if you did and how you and others around you dealt with it!), but on Twitter, let me tell you, the Trolls were out in full force. Surprising, since they had done everything they could previously to state the the War on Women was either a farce, fake or engineered by the Democrats. We've got them scared.

The hatred and venom, though, from some of the Troll tweets I witnessed made me feel a little sick. I saw some that stated that women like "us" deserved to be abused, deserved to be raped. That we deserved to be locked away and forced to have babies. Some got even worse than that, threatening people's lives. Others were more tame, simply stating that we were liars, idiots, useless, and much more.

BUT...They did NOT stop those of us online..if anything, we pushed back, we blocked, we reported, we ignored. Some of us (not me..I love the block button, lol) even argued with them, tried to reason with them. I felt so inspired by those around me in the Twitter Universe. The boosts people were giving to each other, the amazing interactions, the feeling of unity.

I have some pictures from the events, but I need more. I am putting together a slideshow for the blog to show everyone just how amazing you all are! I'd also need permission to use them, and if you prefer anonymity, I have a wonderful program that blurs faces.

This is just a short note today, but tomorrow will bring more!

So, my friends, this is ONLY THE BEGINNING. We shall prevail, We WILL win against this War On Women. I have faith in us... Thank you for letting me even a small part of this journey.

What comes after this? So much more...stay tuned, as I just know there's more work for us around the corner!

I leave you as usual, you inspire me, you guide me. You educate me, and I am grateful. Thank you!

Please feel free to comment, as to truly be informed, you must have information! Debate is great, even necessary, however, as usual, Trolls and abusers will be dealt with swiftly.

With all my Respect,

April 28th - The March Against the War On Women.

Hello my dear Suffragettes and Suffragents!

Tomorrow is almost here, and it will mark the most important event of the year for us: The Unite Against The War On Women March! On Saturday, April 28th, we will be marching all over the U.S. to protest the War Against Women. People from all over will be coming to watch, march, and offer their support as we raise awareness about the restrictions that have been placed on us since 2010.

I don't know about you, I am definitely excited! I wish I could be there in person, but, unfortunately I'll be up here in Canada. So I will be with everyone in spirit, watching, looking for news, sharing throughout the day what's going on.

Now, when you march, hold your head high, ignore the haters. They just want a reaction from you so they can run and tell everyone how we're all violent, high-strung left-wing daydreamers who want attention. It only takes one to make that happen. So, let's march with class, march with dignity. And for every step you take on this march, remember this: The women and men who marched before you all had haters and abusers trying to trip them with every step. They got through it and WON. We can do the same!

I've noticed on Twitter that the Trolls have come out in full force. - THIS MEANS THEY'RE SCARED. They're realizing the we mean business! Again, ignore, press that wonderful 'block' button, alert your Twitter pals and stay safe, even online!!

So, here are some links you will need if you are wondering how to participate, watch, or even just learn about what we're fighting for:

http://unitewomen.org/unite/april-28-events/
This link will show you where to go for the events and times.

Those links will tell you when, where and what is going on. I hope to hear that thousands upon thousands of you showed up all over the country! PLEASE make sure to remain safe. The organizers of the events are encouraging people to remain passive. Should someone come up to you and start bullying you because of the march, try to avoid them, or yell out for help (especially if they touch you). Don't get involved in a fight, that will take away from the meaning of the event!

As a reminder, as well, if you are going to be tweeting from the events, please use the hashtag: #UAWOW.

And please! Tweet me pics! I'm going to put a slideshow together for the blog of all the pics sent to me and share it on the blog! Make sure to let me know if you give me permission to use any pics with you in them. If you wish to remain anonymous, I will be more than happy to blur out your face for your protection and privacy :)

So, good luck my friends, we're going to make HISTORY tomorrow! (Or should I say HERSTORY!) My heart and best wishes will be with each and every one of you, and I will be tweeting my heart out tomorrow! Send me some inspiration!

And again, You all inspire me, you educate me. I am grateful :)

And just one more time (because it's so important!) STAY SAFE!

The GOP - A History of (almost all) Negative

Hello, Fellow Suffragettes and Suffragents!

As I started this particular post for my blog, I was ready to rummage through the skeletons in the Republicans' closets...I'm still doing that, but, since my ethics and morals refuse to allow me to do otherwise, I'm going to be fair and show you something interesting I learned about the Republican party..and it's surprisingly nice..although it was back when the party was first started. don't misunderstand. I still don't like the Republican Party - NOW. Back then, it would have been a different story. Let me explain.

So let's start at the beginning:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_(United_States)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_United_States_Republican_Party
http://lindasuegrimes.suite101.com/women-and-the-republican-party-a67082

The Republican party was formed in 1854 by anti-slavery activists. It was, interestingly enough, created shortly after the Suffragette movement was formed. They quickly started championing for women's rights, causing many women to become Republican.

Now. Imagine the tables are turned..the Democrats are the bad guy, and the Republicans are the good guy. I know, it's hard to think about, but when the Republicans first formed, they did so to protest the tie between the Democratic party and the KKK. You see, back then, the Democrats were the bad eggs. Ironically enough, especially with what's going on in 2012, the Republicans were the women's biggest and most vocal supporter. And even more ironic? It was the Republican party who passed the "Equal Suffrage Amendment".
Their Slogan back then?  "free labor, free land, free men." What did it mean? It meant that workers should be paid, not slaves. It meant that the rich were no longer going to be allowed to buy up all the good farmlands.

With Lincoln in power in 1860, the party set about saving the Union, getting rid of slavery and the Reconstruction.

But, by 1870, the party started to suffer. In-house fights over what the party should be representing, as some thought that they had accomplished their original goals and should move on to other things. The party ultimately began to support business, high tariffs, high profits and high wages. They also supported the Unions. The Republicans started taking credit for any business boom that happened.Within a few decades, the original goals of the party had been abandoned.

http://hiphoprepublican.com/politics/2009/06/03/republican-womens-history-jeannette-rankin/

After the Woman's Suffrage Movement had succeeded, there was no more use for a woman to be involved in politics. Women were sent back to the home and told it was their "civic" duty to have children, teach them the Republican way. The sons were taught about liberty, government and business, while daughters were taught to stay home and learn domestic duties. Women had the rights they had fought so hard for, but not every woman took advantage of them. In all fairness, some Republican women did use their newfound power. Susan B. Anthony was one, Jeannette Rankin, the first woman to serve in the House, Margaret Chase Smith, the first female nominated for president of the United States.

Some of the most important women in regards to the Suffrage Movement were Republican. And so, they DID do something good. Not anymore.

Where did it all go wrong? When? It all went wrong when someone picked up a Bible and translated it to suit their own needs. Now, this blog is not about bashing Religion. Far from it. I'm a Christian. I grew up in a family full of Ministers, male AND female. What I am thoroughly against is Zealotry, Bigotry, Hate, Fear-Mongering and twisting words in a book to satisfy some dark need to control people.

Fast forward to the last decade or so:

Here is a link to read. It was written in March 2012:

And another:

And one more:

Theses articles talk a little bit of how the GOP is now known to some as the "American Faith Party ". Some people have started to infer that GOP now means "God's Own Party".

The right-wing zealotry really began to show it's ugly head around the 1970's. The first few main "hate groups" were formed in the 1970's: The Eagle ForumFocus on the FamilyChristian Voice Concerned Women for America and Moral Majority.

These groups all had themes in common: They were anti-abortion, anti-woman, anti-rights, anti-homosexuality.

In the 1980's, the following "Hate Groups" were formed: Washington for JesusFamily Research CouncilChristian Coalition and Liberty Counsel

And there are more popping up every day. These are ALL hate groups, as defined by the Southern Poverty Law Centre: http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/hate-map

Some are probably wondering: Why are they choosing to sign all these restrictive laws now? Why not before? Because up until 2010, the Republicans did not hold enough States or power in order to get these laws in, out and signed without a huge struggle. They laid low, they plotted, schemed, made nice with the constituents. And in 2010, after pulling the wool over their voters' eyes, they gained majority in more than 19 of the Democratic-governed States. That gave them the power necessary to accomplish their goal. And accomplish it they did. They have passed over 1200 restrictive laws on women ALONE. Since their rise to power. With more on the way.

And, I fear, should Mitt Romney somehow manage to worm his way into the White House, we are doomed. The GOP will have even more power. More power to overturn Roe vs Wade and so much more. I see the United States going from a free country to more like a dictatorship. And we all know how that ends. It won't be pretty, ladies and gents. And I very much do not want to see that happen to my American friends.

Oh, and should you hear a Republican go on about how they are "protecting women", you can tell them, "Oh, that's so 2 centuries ago!"

I leave you with some definitions that I equate to the GOP.

The definition of a Religious Terrorist:

  • (Religious terrorism) Religious terrorism is terrorism by those whose motivations and aims have a predominant religious character or influence.

    1. zeal·ot
      noun /ˈzelÉ™t/
      zealots, plural
      1. A person who is fanatical and uncompromising in pursuit of their religious, political, or other ideals

Tomorrow's blog will be about the April 28 March Against The War On Women. Also Saturday, April 28th, I will be tweeting and blogging throughout the day about what is happening with the march. Monday, I'll be blogging about Mitt Romney and the skeletons in his closet, and again, since I'm an ethical person, I'll include Obama's. We'll see who the better person is.

So my friends, again, you inspire me, you teach me every day. Thank you.

Please feel free to comment. Because to be informed, you need information! All are welcome, but trolls and abusers will be dealt with swiftly.

Women, Politics and the Suffrage Movement

Hello to my fellow Suffragettes and Suffragents!

As April 28 2012 draws near, I've been thinking about the Suffrage Movement. Both past and present. For those who don't know, or are just starting to learn about what's happening, April 28 will be the day the women in the United States get together all over the country and march against the War on Women. Events will be happening all over the country, and I encourage all to get out there and join, or even just show your support. I have graciously been allowed to use some of the information this wonderful movement has put together in this blog, so a huge thank you to www.unitewomen.org. for that!

So, first I'd like to talk about the original Suffrage Movement. Here are the links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_suffrage_in_the_United_States
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_suffrage
http://www.infoplease.com/spot/womenstimeline1.html
http://www.history.com/topics/the-fight-for-womens-suffrage
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/3/prweb9333560.htm

The first, and most documented Suffrage Movement started in 1848 and continued until around 1920. There was a period during which the movement was put on hold, during the Civil War. Technically, the movement had started several years before. Back in in the 1700's, women were allowed to vote. Then, in 1807, a law was enacted, restricting women from voting. Which was, in fact, an  unconstitutional act.

Most people see Susan B. Anthony As the mother of the Suffrage Movement, but that isn't true. The first original (documented) Suffragettes were: Frances WrightErnestine RoseLucretia Mott and Margaret Fuller. Margaret Fuller was the author of the book: The Great Lawsuit; Man vs. Woman. (I've read the book. It's pretty good, being from that time. I'll provide a link to it at the end).

In 1848,  Gerrit Smith, a nominee for the Liberty Party was the first documented male supporter of the Suffrage Movement. He made an impassioned speech that year, calling for universal voting rights, male and female. That year, the first woman to ever be nominated for a federal office position - Vice President. That woman was Lucretia Mott. Soon after that, more notable Suffragettes joined, such as Mary Ann M'Clintock and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

In 1850, the  National Women's Rights Convention was organized for the first time. This brought together the Suffragettes that had been fighting for their rights. This convention brought with it one of the most well-known Suffragettes of all time: Susan B. Anthony.

This convention is noteworthy, mostly because it spawned some future leaders of the movement, most notably: Matilda Joslyn GageAbby Kelley Foster, and, of course, Sojourner Truth, who gave the speech: Ain't I a Woman? which brought supporters to their feet with cheers.

Several associations were born from this one convention, all with the same goal: Freedom and Rights.

They were blocked by most, abused, argued with, tormented, bullied. To their face, every day..obviously there were no computers back then to allow people to bully anonymously. The Suffragettes had to grow thick skin. Thicker than some of us will ever have to have. They were even bullied by other women, like Helen Kendrick Johnson

World War I, ironically enough, was when the Nineteenth Amendment was signed, giving women the right to vote. Only because after Woodrow Wilson declared that America was a Democracy, scores of women picketed the White House, with several getting arrested.

The original Women's Suffrage Movement was, for the most part, about the right to vote, and the right to run for office. And thanks to these brave women and men who risked everything to stand up for their rights, and the rights of those who would follow after them, we now have a voice.

Which brings me to the Modern Day Suffrage Movement.

Because we have a voice, because we have voting rights, we have to exercise them. This Movement might be a little different (okay, a lot different) than the Original Movement, however, without it, we would be at square one, starting from scratch.

What is the Suffrage Movement fighting for in 2012?

Abortion Rights. Rights to make their own decisions regarding their own body. The right to proper healthcare. The right to live as they see fit. The right to avoiding abuse. The right to making their own decisions regarding health, relationships and children. The right to not be prosecuted for miscarriages. I could go on, but these are the issues I see the most.

So many rights have been taken away, or are being taken away from women right in front of us. Most of the laws that have just recently passed have been in the works for years. Some of the laws were passed last year, but done so quietly that no one noticed until someone said something.

In February, 2012, two women in separate states had connected. They were discussing the issues, and wished there was some way they could stand up against them. That was when the Unite Against The War On Women was born. These two women did what most of us had been wanting to do. They formed this group, gathered people together and promoted themselves. Let me introduce you to Karen Teegarden from Michigan and Desiree Jordan from New York. Two very extraordinary women.

Within a small time frame, their little organization grew. And grew. And grew. Once people learned about it, they joined in and asked how they could help.

Soon, the March Against the War on Women was born out of that group. And on April 28th, we will be marching all across the U.S. to protest our rights being taken from us. I can't be there, as I'm in another country, however you better believe I'll be cheering them on, blogging my heart out and getting the word out! I'll be providing links to their amazing organization, as well as to the march.

Back to the Movement. Like our sisters before us, we have faced bullying, adversity, lies and more. For example, Sandra Fluke. She went to speak about birth control. She was bullied for her efforts, called a slut, and vilified by Rush Limbaugh. But, what the politicians didn't realize, is by bullying her, they made her into a national - no - international hero for women. She represented a majority of the women that the Republican party was trying to cage.

We have been bullied, our names dragged through the mud. Most of it done by someone hiding behind a keyboard. And, like the original movement, we even have women that are against us. I am sometimes tempted to give it back as good as I get, but then I remember: I am strong; I am not alone; Nothing they say or do could ever stop me from fighting for my rights, and the rights of those who will come after us. This fight isn't just about us. It's about future generations.

Despite our best efforts to date, more restrictive laws have come to pass. The majority being about Abortion. All because some politicians whipped out their bible and interpreted passages so that it consisted with their very narrow-minded, women-fearing opinions.

This might seem completely off topic, but when the scientists came across the Mayan predictions, more specifically for the one in December 2012, I did wonder if maybe the great change that is supposed to occur is women FINALLY gaining control. Just my own thoughts. But whatever is making these lawmakers take away so many rights, the most obvious point is that WE scare them. We have too much power, in their eyes. So much power, that if we ALL united and used our power for a great cause such as this, there is NOTHING that can stop us!

Fellow Suffragettes and Suffragents, you've got my vote. You've got my support, I'm here to help with whatever is needed. We will no longer sit back and watch our rights taken from us without our consent. This is not a war, this is a REVOLUTION.

And as always, you inspire me, you teach me. I appreciate every single one of you. Now go out there and MARCH!

More Restrictive Laws on Abortion

Hello, my fellow Suffragettes and Suffragents!

After a much needed evening off from research, I'm back on the trail of Restrictive laws against Women in the U.S. Today's blog will be about Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

Let's start with Mississippi.

Now, Mississippi has had restrictive laws in place about abortion for some time, but it's recently been changed to add more restrictions and possibly end all abortions in the state. Why would it end all abortions? Because it now states that doctors can only perform abortions if they have admitting privileges at a local hospital. At Mississippi’s sole abortion clinic, the Jackson Women’s Health Organisation, only one of the three practicing doctors has admitting privileges at the area hospital.

And last year they tried to introduce the "Personhood Amendment", but were shot down, thank goodness. And it's no secret that Governor Bryant wants to make Mississippi the first completely Abortion-free state. I'm sure the GOP would love that, as it would give them a better chance at getting that through the door in other states as well.

The most informative site I found for Mississippi was:

And the most interesting was:

(Yes, that one's a little long, lol, but full of information!)

Next up is Alabama.

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/02/27/432790/alabama-ultrasound-abortion-bill/http://news.firedoglake.com/2012/02/28/alabama-backs-down-on-trans-vaginal-ultrasound-but-anti-abortion-laws-elsewhere-persist/

Okay. So, Alabama has boarded the abortion train too. The links are about the abortion laws. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley ( a Republican, of course) believes that life begins at conception, and like most Republicans, has decided that everyone needs to go along with his beliefs. Back in June 2011, a bill was passed that outlawed abortions after 20 weeks gestation. The bill was based on the belief that after 20 weeks a fetus can feel pain. Fair enough, I'm no doctor, so I can't dispute it. But now, they are trying to make it earlier than that. But at least they now are writing a bill saying that women don't HAVE to have the invasive ultrasound procedure before having an abortion. They must have been feeling generous.

Alabama is not the most restrictive state in the U.S., but like most states these days, they are well on their way.

The most helpful site I found:
http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/government-and-you/state-governments/state-profiles/alabama.html

And the last one for today, Georgia.
http://law.findlaw.com/state-laws/abortion/georgia/
http://www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/en-US/Display/20112012/HB/954

http://msmagazine.com/blog/blog/2012/03/31/at-11th-hour-georgia-passes-women-as-livestock-bill/

Georgia's law now states that abortions after 20 weeks gestation is illegal. Even in cases of rape and incest. Republican State Rep Doug McKillip says that he had a revelation after having children and starting to read the Bible. So he went from being a pro-choice Democrat to an Anti-Woman Republican. They've loosed the restrictions somewhat, allowing for abortions if a doctor finds that the baby would not survive outside the uterus. Now. If Roe Versus Wade is EVER overturned, let me tell you..the laws will get stricter. - To the point where you might be forced to continue to carry a child, regardless if they might be dying in your uterus, whereby allowing the fetus to suffer. - Wait...isn't that what they're all screaming about? The fetus being in pain?

Interestingly, in this article,
http://blogs.ajc.com/jay-bookman-blog/2012/03/20/the-fanaticism-behind-ga-s-pending-abortion-law/,
several obstetricians provided scientific evidence that a fetus does not begin to feel pain until the 28th week. Yet McKillip dismissed them, while intimating that the medical EXPERTS were liars. Let me guess..he's been reading his Bible again?

Then there's Rep Terry England. He's the guy who compared women to livestock, stating that if a cow or a pig could carry a dead baby to term, then women surely could too. You think this is the worst part? Not even CLOSE. I hope you're sitting down.

This bill also excludes a woman’s “emotional or mental condition.” Basically, women suffering from mental illness would be forced to carry a pregnancy to term. Suicidal women and and women who cause harm on themselves because of their unwanted pregnancy would also be forced.

Now, after all that heavy stuff, I have included one link just to let you know that there ARE people there that are trying to fight back for us:
http://www.eurweb.com/2012/02/georgia-rep-fights-abortion-bills-with-anti-vasectomy-act-video/

I love this one. Georgia Rep Yasmin Neal and some other democrats introduced the "Anti-Vasectomy Act" in direct retaliation to the restrictive laws that were being placed on women. I encourage you to watch the video, as it's great!

Now, my final thought for the evening: From my point of view, I see all these restrictive laws coming for a reason. The GOP wants to restrict abortion enough in every state so that it then becomes easier to overturn Roe versus Wade. And if that happens, we're in for a bigger fight than ever.

I can't stress this enough: Get informed..not just with what's happening in your state, but in every state. And VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! We're gaining momentum and attention in our fight against the War on Women, but we can't sit back and watch..there's still so much to be done.

And so, my friends, as I keep saying, you inspire me, you teach me, you make me want to be a better person.

Please feel free to comment. All questions, suggestions, comments, corrections are welcome! Because, to be informed, you must have all the information. Please be respectful in your comments. Debate is great, but trolls and violence will be dealt with swiftly.

Politics and Twitter

Hello, my friends,

I was all set to write a new post about the War on Women, but I was so mentally exhausted from constant research, little sleep and emotionally exhausted from what I've been researching that I decided to take a break this evening. So, I'm going to try something different for this post. No links, just words tonight.

So. Politics and Twitter. Now, in 2012, we are at a point where with a simple click of your mouse we have thousands of articles - true or not - at our fingertips. This, interestingly, makes this coming U.S. Election fairly important.

You see, even back in 2008, even with the information super-highway (Internet) being available, the majority of us relied on watching the news and word of mouth to get our information. Twitter was virtually non-existent, and nowhere near as many news programs had information readily available online.

Now, all you have to do is go on Twitter and almost anything you want to know is right there. From how to fix something, all the way up to Politics. All you have to do is "tweet" something, and nine times out of ten someone will respond. - With links to whatever it is you are searching for.

Now, I'm a relative Twitter newbie..I've only been on for a little bit. But in that little amount of time, Twitter has helped me immensely in my quest for information. Primarily The U.S. Election, the War on Women, and Gay Rights.

I have met some amazing people (names withheld for their protection) who have graciously allowed me to follow them, and have provided me with links, pictures, facts so I can write this blog to the best of my ability. I could not do this without them. (SHOUTOUT to you guys, You ROCK!)

Sometimes it can be hard to separate fact from fiction, reality from fantasy, especially online, but I've become quite good at being able to weed out the non-facts.

BUT...there is a dark side. Trolls, or people who vehemently or even violently disagree with what your personal beliefs are. I don't have a problem with disagreement, however these people take it as far as they can get away with..they will spam your news stream, they will try to trap you into a never ending argument where they just keep repeating themselves (because they know it will get to you), and some even resort to threats. I do try to be respectful of other people's beliefs. After all, I have no right to tell them what to believe in. Just like they don't have the right to tell me what to believe in. Terrible, isn't it, that some of us have ethics, others will do whatever it takes to send their hatred out into the world.

Take my twitter page as an example. I recently became a target for some trolls. Most were dealt with swiftly. (I do love that "block" button!), others weren't that easily deterred. I sent out a tweet to my Twitter pals, and they came to my rescue. They helped defend me, sent me notes to raise my spirits, giving me advice on how to deal with them. It really made me realize that even though some of us are countries apart, when it comes to fighting for our rights, it really doesn't matter where you are, what medium you choose, people WILL unite and work together, defending each other. And rarely have I seen any "in house" bickering or arguing or abuse among my fellow Suffragettes and Suffragents. Again, they are nothing short of amazing.

Where does Politics come into this? Well, When I first started on Twitter, I obviously had no followers. So, I sent out a couple of tweets into the cyber universe about the War on Women, and went about looking for like-minded people to follow. Within moments, I had tweets addressed to me, complete with links for everything I was looking for. It was easier to find the information I needed through Twitter, than it was to look up websites, read newspapers or even just go talk to someone.

Now, SOME of these politicians/lawmakers are aware of this..some of them are even erasing tweets in the hopes that people will forget them..Others, not so much. Which, infinitely, makes my job a hell of a lot easier, lol. Some politicians even parade their wives out and have them tweet things in the hopes of gaining more votes. Other politicians (or their handlers) use their Twitter to send out information they WANT people to see, knowing that it will reach thousands upon thousands in an instant.

Which brings me to my point. If you want an election to be won, do it on Twitter. If you want the word spread about the War on Women, bring it to Twitter. You'll get noticed, trust me.

And with that, my lovely friends, I leave you with my same old saying: You inspire me, you teach me, you make me aspire to be the best possible human being I can possibly be. And I thank you.

*On a side note, remember that the March for the War Against Women is coming up on April 28th! I have a previous post with the information!*

Please feel free to comment. All questions, suggestions and comments are welcome, because to truly be informed, you need information.

With the best of regards and respect,

Politics and Religion Shouldn't Mix

Hello! And how are my favorite Suffragettes and Suffragents doing?

As I was doing some "light" reading into the laws in U.S. states other than Wisconsin, I was emailed several news articles today about Tennessee. And it BLEW MY MIND! So, we're going to start there. So far, not all the states seem to have been mentioned during this War on Women, but let's investigate, shall we? I was going to do several states, but since reading about Tennessee, I think we'll do this one today.

TENNESSEE:
http://preliatorcausa.blogspot.com/2012/03/tennessee-senate-passes-anti-science.html
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/03/20/tennessee-senate-passes-anti-evolution-bill/

Okay. So, basically, the anti-evolution bill (See above links) - which is also named the "Monkey Bill" - (cue hysterical laughter here) is about allowing teachers to help students challenge or question evolution, creationism, etc. Now, it sounds like that would be a good thing, but since students can and do question and challenge what they're taught anyway, what's really going on? Take Global Warming, for an example, since almost every blog and article I came across referenced this. The best way to explain this is to directly quote one of the blogs:
"The month of March has seen unprecedented heat and temperatures. A rational thinking, scientifically-grounded individual could only posit, "Well, hmm, I bet climate change has something to do with the fact that in Madison, WI, it is 80 degrees in mid-March. Sometimes it's 60 or 70 degrees colder than this!"
While that individual would be positing something that is the well-accepted scientific consensus, in some states, under law, that is only a "controversial theory among other theories."
(Ref: http://www.progressivebloggers.ca/tag/tennessee-s-b-893/)

Or in other words, teachers can help students question science - even PROVEN science..a sneaky way to get some religion into school. Nothing wrong with questioning things. That's how you learn, but doing something so underhanded like this is exactly how these lawmakers function.

Next. Hand holding. Is anyone else trying to pick their jaws up off the floor? Ridiculous. Anyways, here's the info on that one.
Links:
http://feministing.com/2012/04/13/tennesse-anti-hand-holdin/
http://www.wmctv.com/story/17353757/bill-would-define-holding-hands-kissing-as-gateway-sexual-activity

What is it with lawmakers thinking of sex so often? Are they really that deprived that they feel that everyone else must suffer along with them? Stopping kids from seeing public affection (as in hand holding, kisses) and preventing them from learning about anything other than abstinence will get you nowhere. Fast. If anything, these kids will go out and find out what's going on for themselves. And yet again, the rise in teen pregnancies, abortion and abuse will rise. This is going to hell in a handbasket, and I feel like a bystander that's just been whipped by the breath of Charon, the ferryman of Hades as he rushes by. ( That's greek, for those who want to know)

Basically all the bill states is that hand-holding, kissing, any sign of affection by anyone, kids, teachers, etc. is paramount to sex, it leads to sex, it leads to promiscuity. Last time I checked, a hug didn't mean I wanted to have sex with them. Next they're going to say that girls can't hang out together because it promotes lesbianism.

Next up is:
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/04/20/468484/tennessee-criminal-prosecution-harming-embryos/

Now, Tennessee has had a bill that allows prosecutors to charge someone for harming a viable fetus past the  32nd week for a fairly long time. But now, they're changing it. Now, they’re looking to criminalize harm to embryos, This could potentially include miscarriages, as it would be up to the woman to prove she miscarried naturally and not because she did something to cause it. Men, listen up, this means you get to do EVERYTHING for a pregnant woman, because your woman will get charged with manslaughter if she lifts something heavy and miscarries as a result! It's just another, more creative way of restricting women.

Have I missed anything? If I have, please do let me know. Because (like I always say) to be informed, you must have information.

That's all I've got time to write this evening, but tomorrow's blog will hopefully include all the states that have restrictive laws against women. In other words, tomorrow's blog might be pretty long. Make sure you have a coffee, tea or alcoholic beverage in front of you so you can enjoy!

So, my friends, again I leave you with this little love note: All of you working so hard to help fight this War on Women, you inspire me, you give me strength, you make me proud. Keep up the good work!

Please feel free to leave a comment, question, etc. I welcome all.
